    Kid Craft Idea 1 - Paper Mache

    What You'll Need

  • newspaper
  • petroleum jelly
  • wallpaper paste
  • scissors
  • paint
  • mold. Almost anything can be used as a mould... but it must not narrow at the ends.

    How Messy Can This Kid Craft Idea Be?

  • cut the newspaper into 1" (25mm x 25mm) square scraps
  • fully cover the mould with petroleum jelly
  • stick the newspaper scraps onto the mould
  • mix up and coat the newspaper layer with wallpaper paste
  • stick another layer of newspaper on before the paste dries
  • continue until you have 8-9 layers
  • leave to dry properly
  • remove the mould
  • paint

    Here's another great kid craft idea... blow up a balloon, use it as mould. When the paper is dry, burst the balloon and remove the pieces.


    Kid Craft Idea 2 - Sculptures... challenging, but not easy

  • newspaper
  • blunt knife
  • large tablet of soap or block of salt

  • spread the newspaper and put the salt/soap on it

  • try using spoons for scraping

    What You'll Need

  • many old newspapers... this one is really messy!
  • blank sheets of paper
  • diluted poster paint
  • old toothbrush
  • old blunt knife (optional)

  • open the newspaper
  • put the sheet of paper on the newspaper
  • pin or stick any object onto the paper
  • dip the toothbrush into the paint
  • holding the brush towards and close to the paper
  • scrape the brush bristles towards you... use the knife or your fingers
  • splatter paint in tiny dots onto the paper
  • dry
  • lift off the object to find a perfect outline shape
